Plant and Eat:
Support Kenyan children’s homes in providing themselves with healthy food!

Willi Schneiter and children from children's homes give each other a high five

Hello! My name is Willi Schneiter.

In the summer of 2021, at the age of 73, I travelled to Kenya for the first time. GOA Switzerland organized a one-month assignment for me. I visited three of their seven children’s homes and got to know the situation on the ground.

As a volunteer, I led morning exercises for the children, built hot water systems and did gardening work. But the children’s touching stories and poverty awakened in me a desire to improve their living conditions in a sustainable way.

A varied diet

There is little variety in the diet of the children in the homes. As a trained farmer and agricultural engineer, I saw that the soil around their homes would allow for a more varied diet. So I teamed up with Peter Muchiri, a Kenyan agronomist from GOA Kenya, to launch the Plant and Eat project.

I donate CHF 1000.00 per month, which Peter uses to buy seedlings, materials for goat and sheep pens, and new fruit trees. He promotes grain cultivation and ensures new plantings.

Running water

Thanks to a successful deep drilling project, I was able to provide running water to the Beat The Drum children’s home.

Effective help

This aid, which comes from my private funds and donations, has a direct, effective and visible impact. I process donations via GOA Switzerland, where they are tax deductible.
