The GOA Children Home Beat The Drum is located in Mai Mahiu, about a two-hour drive from Nairobi. It is one of seven GOA children’s homes, which were founded 30 years ago by Kenyan David Thogana, along with two schools and a Bible school.

All the children living at the Beat The Drum home are HIV-positive orphans. The name of the home refers to the tradition of beating the drum to draw people’s attention to a problem. In this case, the name of the home is intended to raise awareness of the problem of the disease.

When I discussed the water shortage with the home director in February 2024, I received a clear message from Jesus: “There is water. I will show you where it is, at a depth of 170 metres.”

It was not possible to have GOA carry out deep drilling. GOA had already carried out three unsuccessful drillings on the site.

So I organised the drilling myself from Switzerland. Before my flight there in May 2024, I transferred the costs for the expensive deep drilling. On 13 May 2024, I arrived at the site. Everything was ready, and drilling began immediately.

It took three days to drill to a depth of 170 metres. Then we had a surprise: we found water! It is of good quality and comes out of the ground at a temperature of around 40 degrees. Thank God through Jesus Christ!

The discovery was celebrated extensively with a Celebration of Joy (an expression of joy, a festival with music, singing and food) and tree planting. The joy is immense and lasting.

After about two months, two tanks and the pipes for distributing the water to all the houses in the area were completed. Now drinking water can be stored for the children, the employees and the animals.

The home director is very grateful that he no longer has to obtain water by truck.

Donations

Plant and Eat is financed by private donations. I would be delighted if you too would help enable children’s homes to provide themselves with healthy food!
